Monte Vista's football program has seen a number of players earn awards and recognition for their performance and actions on and off the field. Check the following sections for team, league, regional, state, and national awards for our former and present Mustangs.
Annual Team Awards and Recognition
The Mustang football program annually names two deserving seniors winners of special awards, recognizing their efforts and contributions to the program. The winner of the Mark Ilharreguy award is named annually by the players for the senior football player who has "exemplified inspirational and courageous play." The winner of the Nic Promessi Award is named annually by the coaches as the senior who best exemplifies the spirit of Monte Vista football.
Mustang players are frequently recognized for their on-field performance by local leagues. This recognition includes being named to an All-League 1st, team, 2nd team, or honorable mention for offense, defense, or both. Recognition has been obtained for players in all of the leagues which the team has participated Monte Vista has been in the Foothall Athletic League (FAL) and the Bay Valley Athletic League (BVAL), but predominantly the East Bay Athletic League (EBAL).
Regional, State, and National Awards
Each year a number of Monte Vista Mustang football players are recognized by local newspapers including the Contra Costa Times and members of the Bay Area News Group for their achievements as football players in the region.
For a number of years, the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) has named All-State teams, with special wards also name underclassmen who had dominant years and are expected to be stars of the future. A number of Mustangs have earned this recognition.
There have also been Mustangs receiving awards on the national level, including All-American awards and Gatorade National Player of the Year.
